WWW.LACHUR.PL Zdzisław Lachur – an eminent contemporary Polish painter the 20th century. He was born July 14, 1920 in Zagórze, near Sosnowiec; died December 30, 2007 in Warsaw. In the years 1945–50, he studied painting and graphics under the direction of professor Eugeniusz Eibisch at The Academy of Fine Art in Cracow. In 1947 he founded the first Polish cartoon film company in Bielsko-Biała and became its director. Later it was converted into "Cartoon Film Studio", which still functions. He has educated a lot of cartoon film creators, among others: Witold Giersz, Władysław Nehrebecki and Zygmunt Kałuża, who works in the USA for Hanna-Barbera company The pictures and drawings of Zdzisław Lachur are to be found on every continent in museums and private collections. Most of his works in Poland are kept in the Jewish Historical Institute, in the National Museum and Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, in museums in Chorzów and Częstochowa. His works abroad are located in Yad Vashem Institute of Jerusalem, in a museum in Haifa, in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Holocaust in Paris and on the royal court in London. The artist has repeatedly presented his works at both collective and individual exhibitions in places like London, Stuttgart, Paris, Jerusalem, New York, Vancouver, Toronto and others. His paintings have been purchased among the others by George Harrison, Jacqueline Kennedy and Barbara Streisand Lachur has also created a painting image of the last Polish Jews. The vision comprises of hundreds of sketches, drawings and the set of Judaic paintings which derives from them. The set is very extensive, featuring portraits, traditional rituals, Jewish feasts as well as images of Moses. Portraits of old Jews prevail over multiform compositions of teachers with their students and fathers with whole families. In the background appear ritual artifacts, symbols of sun and moon as well as boards of Moses. The artist has worked out his own style of painting beautiful old people's heads featuring expressive eyes manifesting sadness; stylized, curly haircuts and beards making up halos around the faces.
